Renshaw’s impressive 109 runs anchored Australia’s innings, helping them achieve a total of 294 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia saw Renshaw form crucial partnerships, notably with Alex Carey and Ollie Peake, which laid a solid foundation for their innings. Despite Zimbabwe’s Newman Nyamhuri’s commendable bowling performance, where he claimed five wickets for 62 runs, Australia managed to post a competitive score.
In response, Zimbabwe struggled early in their chase, losing four quick wickets, but a 98-run stand between Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza briefly reignited their hopes. Ervine, however, was dismissed for 59 by Nathan Ellis, who returned for a successful spell that dismantled the middle order.
Raza contributed 57 runs before being bowled by Spencer Johnson, and as Zimbabwe’s innings faltered, Ellis capitalized by taking five wickets for 31 runs in 9.1 overs, ensuring Australia maintained control. Zimbabwe was ultimately bowled out for 235 in 45.1 overs.
The teams will meet again for the second ODI in Harare on Friday, followed by the third match on Sunday, as Australia looks to seal the series with another win.
