Thailand is expanding its aviation links internationally with strategic partnerships and technological upgrades to enhance its tourism sector. Vietnam Airlines has recently introduced a new flight route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, which commenced operations on July 2. The airline offers four flights a week on this route, aiming to accommodate the increasing number of travelers from Vietnam. Notably, Vietnam has already contributed over 300,000 tourists to Thailand in the first six months of this year.
In addition to the collaboration with Vietnam Airlines, Thailand’s aviation network is further bolstered by flydubai’s new flight services. Starting July 1, flydubai initiated daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok, with plans to increase this service to twice daily beginning September 15. This development is set to enhance the connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand, facilitating greater movement of people and strengthening tourism ties.
Beyond expanding flight routes, Thailand is also focusing on improving its regional airport infrastructure. The country is preparing to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at select regional airports, a move aimed at enhancing air traffic management and operational efficiency while providing better access to secondary cities. The AFIS system is expected to begin operations at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with considerations for extending it to other regional airports subsequently.
These developments underscore Thailand’s commitment to boosting its tourism appeal through improved connectivity and infrastructure. By fostering new partnerships and investing in airport technology, Thailand is positioning itself as a more accessible and attractive destination for travelers from various parts of the world.
