Vietnam is set to deepen its strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, as reaffirmed by To Lam, the Vietnamese General Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee and President, during high-level talks with Azerbaijani presidential envoy Elchin Amirbayov in Hanoi. The discussions centered around enhancing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

To Lam emphasized the historical support Azerbaijan provided to Vietnam during its struggle for independence and highlighted the significant milestone reached during his state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025, which elevated bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership. He called for increased political trust and effective implementation of existing agreements, aiming to bolster mutual development goals and contribute to regional and international peace and stability.

Amirbayov praised Vietnam’s rapid development and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening ties, rooted in the legacy of past leaders and nurtured by successive generations. Both nations agreed to boost high-level exchanges and improve bilateral cooperation mechanisms. They also stressed the importance of involving government agencies, businesses, and local authorities to enhance cooperation.

Key areas identified for expanded collaboration include trade, investment, oil and gas, renewable energy, transport, logistics, science and technology, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders also discussed enhancing coordination and support at international organizations and multilateral forums, such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement, underscoring their shared commitment to global peace and cooperation.

During the meeting, Amirbayov conveyed greetings from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to To Lam, who in turn extended an invitation to President Aliyev and his spouse to visit Vietnam, further cementing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
