The 16th National Assembly of Vietnam is gearing up for its first extraordinary session slated to take place in Hanoi from August 3 to August 24. During this session, lawmakers will tackle a comprehensive legislative agenda that includes a variety of significant national projects. The assembly is expected to consider a total of 33 agenda items, which encompass the passage of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. Additionally, first readings of seven more bills will be conducted alongside discussions on seven pivotal national issues.
The proposed legislation set for consideration spans multiple critical sectors. These include petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering measures, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. This diverse legislative focus reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to address both current and future challenges across different domains.
In addition to legislative matters, the assembly will delve into several major infrastructure and development projects. Noteworthy initiatives under review include the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, as well as planned adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project. Another significant topic on the agenda is the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project, which has been a subject of considerable attention.
Further discussions will explore the establishment of new cities in Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh, highlighting the government’s continued focus on urban expansion and regional development. Special policy mechanisms for renewable energy are also expected to be a key focus, in addition to projects related to APEC 2027 and the country’s digital transformation strategy. These discussions underscore Vietnam’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and modernization.
