Vietnam and Azerbaijan are seeking to enhance their strategic partnership through increased trade and travel links, as Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan engaged in talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in Baku on October 14. The discussions took place during Xuan’s participation in the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership, which was established following the visit of Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to Azerbaijan in 2025. The leaders highlighted the potential for expanding cooperation in various sectors, including oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, science, and technology.
Joint energy projects and investment opportunities were key topics, with both sides agreeing to encourage businesses from their respective countries to explore these avenues. They also discussed potential visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes to facilitate travel, tourism, and business exchanges.
The talks emphasized the importance of high-level exchanges and improved coordination between government agencies to implement existing bilateral agreements more effectively. Additionally, cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production was discussed, alongside efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties.
Vietnam and Azerbaijan also pledged to deepen their collaboration at regional and international forums, expressing support for multilateralism and a commitment to upholding the United Nations Charter and international law. These efforts aim to bolster their strategic partnership and foster mutual growth and development.
