Vietnam, Malaysia Enhance Defense Ties and Regional Collaboration

Vietnam and Malaysia are intensifying their defence cooperation efforts as both nations aim to bolster bilateral ties and support regional stability. In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Phan Văn Giang engaged in discussions with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, acknowledging his contributions to enhancing the collaboration between the two countries.

General Giang highlighted the advancements in defence relations, noting the regular military exchanges, policy dialogues, and training collaborations that have taken place. He also emphasized the coordination at international and multilateral events, which has further solidified the partnership. The Vietnamese defence leader underscored the necessity of continuing to implement existing agreements and called for increased interaction through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms.

In an effort to further deepen ties, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to take part in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to be hosted in Hanoi. This event is expected to provide a platform for further engagement and collaboration between the defence sectors of both nations.

Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai expressed his gratitude towards Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support throughout his tenure. He conveyed optimism that the defence relations between Vietnam and Malaysia will continue to flourish, contributing to the peace and prosperity of the region.
