In a bid to bolster collaboration between Vietnam and northeastern Cambodia, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to enhance cooperation between the regions, assess Vietnamese business activities, and understand the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community residing there.

Discussions with local Cambodian leaders focused on expanding partnerships in various sectors such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the importance of growing ties facilitated by cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development initiatives with Vietnamese provinces. Kratie province particularly commended the diplomatic and socio-economic advancements made through collaboration with Vietnam, highlighting efforts in infrastructure development and joint projects to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during Cambodia’s wartime.

Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ expressed appreciation for the role of Vietnamese enterprises in sectors like agriculture, mining, and rubber production in Cambodia, noting that these initiatives have not only supported local economic growth but also fortified bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities spotlighted the province’s investment potential, especially in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, encouraging more Vietnamese firms to explore business opportunities in these areas.

During the visit, the ambassador also engaged with representatives of the Vietnamese-origin community to discuss issues related to legal status and livelihoods. He encouraged adherence to local regulations and emphasized the importance of education and sustainable development initiatives. Currently, Vietnam stands as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors, with over 200 projects in the country totaling approximately $3 billion in registered capital.
