Vietnam and Lithuania are seeking to strengthen their partnership following a meeting between Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys in Hanoi. The talks focused on expanding cooperation in crucial areas such as trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, and science and technology. Both sides emphasized the potential benefits that deeper bilateral ties could bring to these sectors.
During the discussions, Vietnam urged Lithuania to support the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) by remaining EU member states. Additionally, Vietnam requested Lithuania’s advocacy for lifting the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports, which affects the country’s seafood industry significantly. Lithuania, on its part, expressed a strong commitment to bolstering Vietnam-EU relations.
In a move to explore further investment opportunities, Lithuania announced plans to send a business delegation to Vietnam. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reinforce economic ties and facilitate mutual growth in various sectors. The Lithuanian delegation’s visit is expected to open new avenues for collaboration and investment, aligning with the shared goals discussed during the meeting.
Beyond economic matters, the two countries also pledged to enhance their cooperation on the international stage, particularly within the United Nations. They agreed to work together to strengthen ASEAN-EU relations and to uphold peace, stability, and freedom of navigation, adhering to international law. This commitment underscores their shared vision for a stable and cooperative global environment.
