Vietnam and Panama are poised to enhance their bilateral relations and expand cooperation in various sectors during the official visit of Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino to Vietnam from October 5 to 8. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen economic and trade ties, with a focus on key areas such as agriculture, telecommunications, infrastructure, maritime transport, port logistics, banking, tourism, and education.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1975, Vietnam and Panama have engaged in high-level exchanges and diplomatic consultations to deepen their partnership. Both countries see potential in leveraging their strategic geographic locations to bridge Southeast Asian and Latin American markets. Economic cooperation remains a cornerstone of their relationship, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $478.1 million in 2025, reflecting a 19.2% increase from the previous year.
Vietnam’s exports to Panama primarily include footwear, electronics, textiles, vehicles, and seafood, while it imports timber, seafood, and raw materials. Panama’s crucial position along the Panama Canal offers significant opportunities for Vietnamese businesses aiming to access the Central American and Caribbean markets more effectively.
The upcoming visit of President Mulino is expected to result in new agreements and initiatives designed to bolster trade, investment, and collaboration across several sectors. Both nations are also anticipated to reinforce existing political and economic cooperation mechanisms.
