Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in enhancing the cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit that celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. According to Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, Vietnam played a crucial part in the summit’s success by promoting ASEAN’s central role and supporting initiatives to deepen the strategic partnership with Russia. The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, focused on dialogue, cooperation, peaceful resolution of disputes, and adherence to international law.
During the summit, Vietnam proposed expanding collaboration in key sectors including energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. New frameworks were adopted to reinforce ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a significant pillar of this partnership. Further highlighting its commitment to future regional cooperation, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their talks centered on expanding cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transportation.
Vietnam expressed optimism that the outcomes of the summit would bolster ASEAN–Russia relations, enhance regional stability, and create new opportunities for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia. By actively contributing to the summit, Vietnam has once again positioned itself as a key player in fostering regional dialogue and cooperation.
