Thailand and France have committed to enhancing their diplomatic ties to a strategic level, as agreed upon by Anutin Charnvirakul and Emmanuel Macron during their official discussions in Paris. The leaders met at the Élysée Palace to deliberate on a range of cooperative ventures spanning trade, investment, cybersecurity, defence, and advanced technology. They also reviewed regional developments, particularly in Cambodia and Myanmar.

A key outcome of their discussions was the decision to boost collaboration in sectors such as alternative energy, aerospace, aviation, smart power grids, and artificial intelligence infrastructure. France has also reiterated its support for finalizing the Thailand-European Union free trade agreement within the year. Initially launched in 2013, these trade negotiations were paused in 2014 and resumed in 2023, with Thai officials highlighting the significant economic potential this agreement holds for both nations.

Additionally, the two countries have pledged to enhance their cooperation in defence and cybersecurity, aiming to tackle cybercrime, online scams, and transnational digital threats. On regional issues, Thailand reaffirmed its dedication to addressing border disputes with Cambodia through peaceful dialogue and adherence to international law frameworks.

Furthermore, both governments have announced the implementation of the Joint Action Plan to Strengthen the Thai-French Partnership 2026-2028. This initiative is intended to lay the groundwork for a formal strategic partnership between the two nations.

During his visit, Anutin Charnvirakul also engaged with executives from leading French companies, including Airbus, Imerys, EssilorLuxottica, IN Groupe, and Thales Group, to attract further investment in Thailand’s burgeoning high-tech and future industries. French businesses expressed optimism about Thailand’s investment climate, and Airbus confirmed its plans to expand aviation and engineering operations within the country.
