Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm has urged Hà Nội to accelerate its economic growth while maintaining a focus on sustainable development. During a meeting with local leaders, Tô Lâm commended the city’s progress in areas such as institutional reform, infrastructure development, and administrative improvements. However, he pointed out that the city still faces challenges, including slower-than-anticipated growth, underutilized resources, and delays in key urban projects.
To address these issues, Tô Lâm called on the city’s authorities to unlock idle resources and expedite key infrastructure projects. He emphasized the importance of enhancing support for businesses, tourism, and innovation while also improving public services. Among the priority areas he identified were reducing traffic congestion, addressing pollution, expanding housing, and investing in sectors like education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Hà Nội has set an ambitious target of achieving 11% growth in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This goal follows a strong performance in the first half of the year, where the city recorded an economic growth rate of 8.22%, surpassing the national average.
Despite the positive economic indicators, Tô Lâm’s comments highlight the need for continued efforts to overcome existing hurdles and ensure that Hà Nội’s development is both robust and sustainable. By focusing on unlocking potential and addressing critical infrastructure needs, the city aims to provide a better quality of life for its residents.
