Vietnam and Japan have pledged to enhance collaboration between their ruling parties and legislative bodies, following discussions in Hanoi between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a high-ranking official from Vietnam’s Communist Party, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This reaffirmation of commitment comes as both nations continue to foster their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a relationship further cemented by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year.
The discussions underscored the desire to advance political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, with both sides acknowledging the progress made in their bilateral ties. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc praised Vietnam’s robust economic growth and the ongoing efforts in administrative reforms. He proposed that Japan assist Vietnam by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which could significantly aid Vietnam’s institutional development.
Ngọc also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in several key areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. He advocated for stronger collaboration between Vietnam and Japan’s parliamentary friendship groups and encouraged more exchanges involving young lawmakers to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.
An additional point of interest for the Vietnamese delegation was the support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. They requested continued assistance and proposed simplifying visa procedures, with the ultimate aim of establishing visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens. This move is seen as a step towards strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Hagiuda Koichi expressed Japan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and assured that the LDP and Japanese parliament would continue to champion exchanges and joint initiatives in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This mutual commitment to collaboration in cutting-edge sectors highlights the strategic importance both countries place on their evolving partnership.
