Việt Nam and Singapore are set to enhance their political trust and strategic coordination as they bolster cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This initiative is gaining momentum as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the bilateral relations between the two countries have progressed beyond traditional economic ties and now focus on sectors that are crucial for long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
The partnership between Việt Nam and Singapore was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, demonstrating the growing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore stands as one of Việt Nam’s key economic partners and is the second-largest foreign investor. The country has thousands of active projects in various sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. The Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network is a significant symbol of this cooperation, with efforts to align with sustainable development goals by expanding towards greener and smarter industrial models.
Both nations are increasingly collaborating in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are underway to connect innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both countries, reflecting a strong commitment to future-oriented economic growth. Economic cooperation will be a focal point during Tô Lâm’s visit, alongside deeper collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.
Technology initiatives like “Tech Connect” are anticipated to strengthen ties between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. This visit is also expected to support the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam, indicating a shared vision for development in these areas.
During his visit, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of the region’s leading security forums. Vietnamese officials view this invitation as a recognition of Việt Nam’s increasing international role and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy. This engagement underscores Việt Nam’s commitment to playing a significant role in regional and global affairs.
